So where do I start

You don’t have to wait to start practical lessons to start the learning process. Whilst you wait for your 17th birthday or as early as you start thinking about learning to drive, why not get ahead, and start practising your theory. You could even try and take your Theory Test prior starting to learn to drive to give you one less thing to worry about. This will really help give you the necessary knowledge you need about the rules of the road and traffic signs you’ll need to understand once you start driving, and if you study well, you may even reduce the amount of practical lessons you’ll need. That’s a real bonus, saving money, and being an independent driver much sooner.

You can take your Theory Test 3 months prior to your 17th birthday. There are many resources online to help you for free. Here’s just a few.

The Highway Code and Know Your Traffic Signs can be downloaded free of charge in PDF format.

Driving the Essential Skills is available in both paperback and electronically at Amazon. This book is really helpful with the practical skills.

Online Theory Training

There are a number of DVD discs on the market which can help you train for the theory test, however these once made, do not update unless you buy a new updated version.

It would make more sense to use apps that are constantly being updated as new questions and hazard perception clips are released. The are available for ios and android.

Here’s a couple you could try.

What you waiting for… time to get cracking!
