9/10/20 – The Theory test has changed

The Theory Test has changed as of 28/9/20. Instead of case studies, you will now see a short video on which you will need to answer 3 multiple choice questions on.

The rest of the multiple choice Remain the same, as does as the hazard perception test.

You can read more on the Gov.co.uk website.

23/9/20 – Lessons still available during lockdown

Whilst the Northeast is currently on lockdown again, driving lessons are still going ahead.

As long as Instructors are Covid compliant then it’s ok to continue to teach.
To those wishing to learn to drive, rest assured I am Covid compliant, following the following procedures:-

  • Only 2 per car (instructor and pupil)
  • Both parties MUST wear masks
  • Temperatures taken at the start of each lesson
  • Hand sanitiser used regularly throughout lesson
  • All touch points in car sanitised after each lesson
  • The tuition vehicle is fogged every night to ensure germ free

Every care is been taken to ensure a clean, safe environment whilst Covid, is ongoing.

10/9/20 – James – Another test pass 😃

James Sweeney Passed his test 10th September 2020 Well Done 😀

Congratulations James Sweeney passing his driving test this morning. Driving tests have been few and far between this year, and 2020 being a year we may want to forget…. but at least something really good happened today for James to make the year that bit better.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish him all the best for the future. Safe driving ‘Beep beep 🚘🚖🙂’

25/08/20 – Test booking available from 26/8/20 at 8am

After the last attempt to open the booking system didn’t really work that well, and the site crashing because it couldn’t handle the amount of people trying to book their test, the DVSA are once again going to try and open the booking system.

They have introduced a queuing system this time.

Fingers crossed it works everyone

21/08/20 Woohoo.. Driving test booking now open

It’s been a nightmare for many pupils who were ready to take their driving test, but unable to due to the DVSA keeping the booking lines closed until they caught up with the backlog.

From today bookings are open to everyone in England and Wales. However they are only booking up to 6 weeks in future at the moment.

Make sure your instructor is available thou before booking your test… you don’t want to book only to find your instructor already has other commitments 🙂

You can read a little more on the DVSA gov page.

16/8/20 – Points on licences for learner drivers

Leasing company Moneyshake.com recently requested information from the DVSA using the Freedom of Information Act to request details on how many points learners are accruing on their provisional driving licences.

What it discovered it that learners are risking losing their licence before even passing the driving test.

The results are quite astounding:-

  • 21,640 learners have 1-3 points.
  • 30,972 learners have 4-6 points.
  • 10,639 learners have 7-9 points.
  • 1,803 learners have 10+ points.

Wow…65,054 in total, now thats a lot.

Once a learner passes the practical driving test there is an automatic two-year probationary period. What this means is anyone accruing 6 or more points will automatically have their licence revoked… and these points are fairly easy to accrue.

Heres some of the things that could give you 6 points or more:-

  • Using your mobile phone whilst driving
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving whilst under the influence of drink or drugs
  • Failing to identify a driver (an example of this could be after being caught by a speed camera)
  • Plain and simple… driving whilst disqualified

Any points accrued will be active on your licence for 3 years (however remain on your licence for 4 years). More serious offences can carry 10 points (but will not expire from the licence until 11 years)

Please note carefully that any points learners have on their provisional licence will carry over to the full license. What this means here however is that should even 1 more point be accrued during the 2 year probationary period, then the licence will be revoked. The provisional licence will have to be applied for again, and both the theory and practical tests will have to be retaken.

You can find out more about penalty points on the Government Website. You can also find out how many points you have on your driving licence too.

Having a driving licence is a privilege… don’t throw the privilege away. Think about your actions carefully…. Drive carefully!

14/8/20 – Driving test booking issues

Driving and theory tests at the minute seem to be a headache for many people. With no new dates yet being booked for new bookings and currently only available to those who have had tests previously cancelled. The few dates available or being offered are at different test centres which could be as much as 40 miles away or dates been given that just aren’t suitable for candidates… it a nightmare!

Find out what the DVSA are saying regarding these issues.

14/8/20 – Emergency driving test applications close

The Online service to book emergency practical Driving tests or theory tests closed today 14/8/20. Although the DVSA will continue to provide dates for those candidates who have successfully applied for a driving test.

By doing this it will help the DVSA move forward towards opening up tests for new tests and re-tests.

2/6/20 – Driving Instructors set to return to work. 🤣🤣

With the lockdown starting to ease, driving instructors in the UK have been looking for some official guidance, as to whether driving lessons can resume.

Official sources claim, that it is now safe to return to work.

Doris Williams at number 62, was talking to her Grandson Darren, whose girlfriend Sophie works in Tesco.

On Saturday Gaz from the Butcher’s Shop came into the store, to buy some wine, as it was his girlfriends Birthday, and he was planning a surprise barbecue.
According to Gaz, his friend Rajinder at the Bengal Tiger Indian Restaurant, has been given official information about driving lessons, by Margaret Wilson, who works at the local Library.

Mrs. Wilson, 59, has suggested that if driving instructors are careful, they can now return to work.
This is because her granddaughter Lucy, has been working in Wilko, and she is around customers every day, without experiencing any symptoms of the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

Driving lessons are expected to resume on Monday 8th of June.

19/5/20 – Driving tests during lockdown

At the minute, the DVSA are providing very misleading information regarding practical driving tests for cars. Towards the end of June some tests have been cancelled and others have not. The DVSA are stating tests are still happening in July too, and whilst they are hopeful, it’s highly unlikely.

One reason for this is, the very people you rely on to take you for test, your Driving Instructor, is not allowed to return to work until the 4th July (The last expected group to return) and even this is uncertain, and depends on how the ‘R’ rate is doing.

Even if Driving Instructors can get back to work on July 4th, they certainly won’t be allowed to present for driving test prior to that date, as it is currently illegal until lockdown is actually lifted. Unless it’s for ‘Key Workers’

After 4th July, it’s still highly unlikely you instructor will take you to test, as bear in mind there will have been no driving lessons for over 3 months, therefore pupils will be very rusty and should really brush up on their skills. It would be a recipe for disaster to present someone for test who haven’t been behind the wheel in such a long time.

Please don’t build your hopes up on any information the DVSA state about driving tests. Until the Instructors can legally return, the only way you’ll do your test is if you go in your own vehicle, once tests have been resumed.
